RANDOM
Thursdays @ The Short Stop, Echo Park

It's all fun and games until the raunchy hipsters come to play. 11-ish seemed to be the peak of the night. The DJ did an awesome job spinning and mixing a danceable yet eclectic mix (rare and even more so here). Bring your dancing shoes and wear clothes you don't mind sweating in.

Je Suis Bien!: Los Super Elegantes Spin @ Akbar, Silverlake

I was curious about what it meant for a band to play DJ for a night. When I found out about Los Super Elegantes spinning for BREAKAWAY @ Akbar, Silverlake, I was ready to find out.

BREAKAWAY is a monthly event that happens the first Sunday of every month at the Silverlake joint, Akbar. The evening was enjoyable and laid back. Unfortunately, Akbar is definitely a tough crowd to break into since almost everyone is there with friends chatting, posing or scoping other people with friends. Going solo was adventurous, but challenging. Maybe its an LA thing.

Anyhow, Los Super Elegantes began their set around 11ish playing a bunch of throwback synthpop songs and mixing it up with newer favorites (i.e. Daft Punk). The entire set was very dancible, which is the point of DJing in my opinion. I unfortunately made a tiny faux pas when I accidently knocked Martiniano's head while spastically dancing. Sorry dude, my bad.

So now I look forward to the real deal, Aug 12. when Los Super Elegantes play live at Safari Sam's. You should check them out on iTunes and live if you're in the neighborhood.
